Ecozema® is a brand of Fabbrica Pinze Schio srl, launched in 2005 and identifying a range of biodegradable, compostable, disposable catering products made from biopolymers or with plant fibres. This range is the result of experimentation on biopolymers, such as Novamont’s Mater-Bi®, which began in 2000 and ended in 2005 when the cutlery made from this material became the first in the world to obtain OK-Compost certification. Today Ecozema® is a technical partner of numerous organisations and events, which are able to properly manage waste thanks to the company’s products and experience.

During its early years, Fabbrica Pinze Schio produced large wooden pegs (pinze in Italian) for the tanning industry, and this is where the company name, registered in 1941, derives from. The company later went on to produce wooden clothes pegs.

In the 1960s, the wood processing machines were joined by machines for engineering thermoplastics, which allowed the company to become the world’s leading manufacturer of plastic pegs. During this decade, the factory evolved into a modern industrial facility, introducing the first automations into the production process, with machines that were often designed and created in-house.

The 1970s saw the establishment of the Zema brand name, an acronym formed by the initials of the then partners (Zugliani Enrico e Munarini Antonio). The Zema product range continued to develop over the years until 2000, when the company began experimenting with biopolymers, such as Novamont’s Mater-Bi, and with recycled plastics.

The first product range to derive from the experimentation was Garden Zema, made entirely from recycled plastic materials.

2005 saw the debut of Ecozema, a range of biodegradable, compostable, disposable catering products made from biopolymers or with plant fibres. Ecozema cutlery was the first in the world to receive OK-Compost certification, and research into disposable products has continued constantly, allowing for the production of increasingly high-quality items.

2010 saw the launch of Re-Zema, a range of products made entirely from post-consumption recycled plastics.

In keeping with the company’s guiding values, Fabbrica Pinze Schio has obtained SA8000 certification for corporate social responsibility. It also holds ISO9001 quality management system certification and ISO14001 environmental management system certification.
