ARPA Umbria – Agenzia regionale per la protezione ambientale è una struttura regionale direttamente dipendente dalla Giunta Regionale umbra che si occupa dello sviluppo e del coordinamento di azioni di prevenzione e tutela ambientale.
The Regional Environmental Protection Agency (ARPA) was set up in Umbria on 6 March 1998 by Regional Law No. 9. It is a regional entity with its own legal personality and enjoys technical and administrative independence. Under the supervision of the Regional Assembly, it is entrusted with carrying out the objectives that the Regional Council, acting on a proposal from the Assembly, sets for each three-year period. The Director General of the Agency drafts the activity programmes on the basis of the objectives set regarding prevention and environmental protection.
Specifically, the Agency takes care of the following: control of chemical, physical and biological factors of pollution on environmental matrices; technical-scientific support for assessing and preventing & #8217; pollution; management of monitoring networks; creation of information systems and environmental databases; control of & #8217; air, & #8217; water and soil quality; waste; radiation and noise; major industrial risks, technical and scientific support and evaluation activities (VIA, VAS, IPPC).
