Thanks to the CIC – Consorzio Italiano Compostatori (Italian Composting Consortium), three containers installed for the recovery of organic waste
The Fra’ Sole Project continues to develop, and Thursday 2 Aprilsaw the beginning of composting activity in Assisi, with the inauguration of thecircular composting point of the Sacred Convent.
Following an analysis of the volumes and type of organic waste produced in the Convent’s waste collection system, CIC – Consorzio Italiano Compostatori Following an analysis of the volumes and type of organic waste produced in the Convent’s waste collection system identified the best solution available, and installed it in the area on the edge of the Convent’s vegetable gardens: the solution comprises three composters and a woodchipper that will now make it possible, in the composting cycle, to use the organic material derived from pruning the olive trees and clearing the Forest.
This composting system, which has just become operative, will be monitored during the start-up period by CIC until the circular system for reusing the organic waste is able to perform its natural, cyclical function of using the compost for growing vegetables and taking care of the olive grove.
Within the broadersustainability project for the complex, this organic waste management system has not only an environmental and economicfunction, but also a socialfunction: the three composters have been produced by Elkarkide, a not-for-profitsocial enterprise in Pamplona that takes care of the’social and occupational integration of people with mental disabilities who risk being excluded from society, as well as promoting environmental protection.
Below are a few pictures showing the installation and start-up of the system.
